Safety Information: In the major tourist areas there is a risk of pick pocketing and petty theft.

Communications: The international access code for Portugal is +351. There are no area or city codes required. The outgoing code is 00 followed by the relevant country code (eg 0044 for the United Kingdom). Portugal is well covered by three GSM mobile phone networks. Internet cafes are available in most towns and resorts.

What is the weather like? There are really two climates in Portugal, the southern and warmer Mediterranean area, and the Northern Atlantic climate. Some visitors who expect extreme heat will be surprised that it is not as warm as countries farther south near the tropics. Summers usually hover around 30ºC (85ºF) and winters 10ºC (50ºF).
