In the second half of February it's time for the
colourful carnival which takes place in several major cities all over Portugal.
It is believed that the most beautiful celebrations are held in Loule (central
Algarve) where a grand costume parade is organized. During the Loule Carnival special children processions are held and they make those days even more
soulful. Huge puppets and caroches painted in all colours of the rainbow,
graceful dancers in festive attire and clowns make the carnival entertainment
in Loule one of the best in Portugal. Read tripadvisor reviews here.
Motorsport fans would be interested in visiting the
Algarve, as throughout the year several major sporting events are held here. And
in mid-summer the Europe's largest gathering of bikers takes place there in a
very beautiful forested area close to Faro airport.
One of the largest events in the region is FATACIL Fair
where both large industrial enterprises and local artisans take part. The Fair
is held in the second half of August, and it usually lasts for 10 days; the
permanent venue for the exhibition is Lagoa in western Algarve. FATACIL appeals
not only to people who love shopping but also to those who enjoy exciting
recreational activities. After appreciating the diversity of the products in exhibition, visitors can go to music
concerts, participate in interesting workshops or listen to informative
lectures by leading specialists in various industries.
Medieval
Days are rather new festivals and throughout the year they are held in many towns all over Portugal. One of these historical events takes place yearly in an ancient
castle close to Castro Marim (close to the Spanish border). There you can see a
lot of people in amazing historic attire and get acquainted with the unique
culture of yesteryear.
